Local Termite Control & Exterminators

Though termites are not dangerous to your health as other pests are - they do not spread diseases, contaminate your food, sting, or bite - they are still easily one of the most dangerous pests to have in your home. They quietly eat away at the wood that makes up the structure of your home, potentially causing significant and extremely costly structural damage to your home and jeopardizing your home’s structural integrity in only a short amount of time. If you suspect that you may have a termite infestation on your hands in the Houston, Katy, Sugar Land, and Missouri City area, give the termite experts at Texas A-1 Pest Control a call as soon as possible.

Signs of a Termite Infestation

Since termites typically live inside the walls of your home where they can remain largely unperturbed, detecting them can be hard to do. If you have signs of water damage but have eliminated the possibility of having actual water damage in the home, you may have a termite infestation. Here are just a few signs of a termite infestation for which you should be constantly checking:

Termite Damage

  • Discolored Ceilings and/or Walls
Through their feces, waste products, and the overall humidity from their body, your ceilings and walls may give the appearance of discoloration
  • Drooping Ceilings and/or Walls
When termites destroy load-bearing wood structures in your house, it can cause your walls to sag, crack, or even collapse entirely.
  • Swollen Floors/Loosened Tiles
Floors that are swollen in certain spots and/or tiles that are loose in certain areas are indicators of a termite infestation. When termites damage floor supports, it can cause tiles to come loose. In addition, termites bring added moisture to the home which can cause tile floors to buckle, heave, and come loose.
  • Hollow Sound
When termites eat the inside of the wood, it creates cavities and makes the wood sound hollow. Inspectors will often knock on the wood to check for a termite infestation.
  • Mud Tubes
Certain types of termites connect their colonies in the soil underground to above-ground food sources in your home via mud tubes, pencil-sized dirt tunnel. Termites use these tunnels so they can travel back and forth between their colony and their food source, while being protected from predators and the elements.

In addition, if you see small pinpoint holes in your wall, cracks or openings in your home’s structure, discarded wings, or dead termites, and/or you can smell mold or mildew with no water damage, you likely have a termite infestation on your hand that you need to get taken care of sooner rather than later, before they cause irreversible structural damage to your home.
